Good news: I am happy to report that the box turtle

numbers on my little "farm" are increasing. This turtle was rescued from a roadside in Tennessee and brought to Georgia by my sister.

Having read an article last fall about the decline in box turle population in Southeastern forests, I was thrilled to see this little guy earlier in the summer. He/she is now about the size of a large apple.

I know almost nothing about box turtles, and don't even know if these two are related. There's another older turtle around whose shell is very dark and old-looking. I look forward to learning more about these sweet little critters.
