Those uncomplimentary pics of Reid & Pelosi in the enviro ads on DU are "not helping"
What you are looking at is an ad campaign by a large collection of noted environmental groups. In this attempt to bring attention to their bill, they concocted an "edgy" message with uncomplimentary pictures of the Democratic Party leaders.

The point that the environmental groups are trying to make is that automobile standards need to be included in the energy bill. They were not there before. (You won't learn that from reading their ad, either). The environmental groups have decided that they want the standards included in the bill. Their lobbyists think that a stand-alone bill won't pass, so they are going for "all the marbles".

Unfortunately, their ad gives the impression that Reid and Pelosi are, to some degree, obstructionist. I lament that. I also lament that their webpage has about nothing for background material on this issue.

Energy is an issue where we definitely have the public's approval. We have the wind at our backs in every sense of the word. We can win gains with a more thoughtful campaign.
