Herkimer County Legislators learn more about wind project

FAIRFIELD — Some Herkimer County legislators came out of a meeting last week with the Fairfield Planning Board impressed with the process officials followed in attempting to develop a wind project in the town, they said.

Several new legislators joined Legislator Patrick Russell and former Legislator Gary Jackson at the Thursday meeting to gain information about the steps the town took, what public opinion is and how officials adapted the town’s local law.

The process followed in Herkimer County municipalities when planning wind projects recently came under a spotlight because the Jordanville project suffered a setback when a judge ruled the town governments in Warren and Stark failed to follow state Open Meetings Law.

But Fairfield officials seem to have used proper procedures, Russell said.

“They had obviously done their homework,” he said.
