Sierra Nevada Brewing Commissions Solar Array
http://www.renewableaccess.com/rea/news/story;jsessionid=996643BA897595D02C7CB339B7669A8B?id=51114

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., a craft brewing company based in California, has announced that it has commissioned the first phase of what will be one of the country's largest private solar installations. This commissioning comes on the heels of the installation of four 250-kilowatt co-generation fuel cell power units, also one of the largest fuel cell installations in the United States.

"With the addition of our solar panels, we are approaching our goal of providing 100% of our energy needs with clean on-site alternative energy generation."--Ken Grossman, CEO, Sierra Nevada Brewing

When completed in 2008, the solar project will produce over 1.4 megawatts (MW) of power for the brewery. This, coupled with its existing 1-MW fuel cell plant, will provide for the majority of Sierra Nevada's electrical energy needs with clean power produced on-site. Surplus electrical energy will be available to help supply the overloaded California power grid during peak power usage periods.

11. They are already one of my faves, being "locally" produced
(anything made in CA is "local" to me). Now I have one MORE reason to support them.

It is adding it here too to me so copy the entire line and delete the space before hitting go. It took me straight to the article after deleting that space.

15. Just follow Rt 5 500 miles north until you get to Orland, then..
Go east about 20 miles and you are in Chico. Or you can follow Rt. 5 to Sacramento, then go up 99, which takes you straight into the town (95 miles from Sac). The only problem with 99 is that it is 2 lanes in many sections. Not good at night.

They have a full-blown great restaurant at the brewery, and you can buy a "sampler" which has a few ounces of each and every beer they make. I think they make about 6 different types, so that's about a couple of beers worth.

But the brewery is in an uglier part of town. Drive a couple of miles north and visit the Bidwell mansion, CSU Chico, and Bidwell park. Absolutely beautiful.

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.’s primary mission is to produce the finest quality beers and ales. We believe this mission can be accomplished without compromising its role as a good corporate citizen and environmental steward. Founded in Chico in 1980, Sierra Nevada applies resource conservation and reusing/recycling raw materials as guiding operating principles.

While Sierra Nevada has grown to over 300 employees with state-of-the-art brewing and processing equipment, founder/owner Ken Grossman continues to operate the brewery in as ecologically clean and efficient a manner as possible.

They also host some great music shows in their "Great Room" and their head chef is a member of the local Slo Food

In the mood for something out of the ordinary? Try our Bordelaise-glazed Filet Mignon and handmade Butternut Squash Ravioli, or our Apple-malt Pork Loin or wood-fired gourmet pizzas. Whatever type of food you’re in the mood for, you’ll find the Taproom and Restaurant is just as friendly and accommodating as the rest of our brewery.

Our vegetarian entrées change with the seasons, showcasing the freshest locally grown produce and most succulent ingredients. All of our breads are baked in-house daily. Malted barley from our brewing process gives our whole-grain rolls and pizza crusts a tender, chewy bite, and sauces based on our ales and lagers flavor many other dishes.

We serve choice aged beef from our own locally raised herd, fed on a special natural diet that includes brewer's yeast with beer and the nutritious spent grains from our brewery. Like our wood-fired pizzas and flatbreads, our grilled meats are cooked over local almond wood, which burns hotter than most woods to sear meats quickly, locking in juices and flavor. Be sure to try our signature Sierra Nevada Ribeye Steak, served with a peppery Pale Ale steak sauce and crispy red onions, garlic mashed potatoes, and sautéed seasonal vegetables.

Whether you’re a Chico native or just visiting, be sure to come by the Sierra Nevada Taproom and Restaurant. We’re located right at the Sierra Nevada Brewery, 1075 East 20th Street, and we’re open every day except Mondays. If you have any questions, give us a call at (530) 345-2739.
