Prince Charles upstaged the world's largest oil companies, politicians and presidents today by appearing out of the ether at an alternative energy summit, saying a few words and then vanishing back into thin air.

The full-size, walking, talking, fiddling hologram of the prince appeared on the world stage to gasps from the 2,500 delegates to the World Future Energy summit. Most had flown thousands of miles to Abu Dhabi to discuss renewable energy and climate change and how to save emissions.

But Prince Charles also surprised many people by referring to a common "creator" figure.

...

"Common actions are needed in every country to protect the common inheritance that has been given to us by our creator," said the prince.

1. Damn, I interpreted the headline to mean "new currency" for alternative energy.
I have been dreaming of this world where the joule is the universal currency, so all currency refers to *actual work done* or potential to do work, money can't be created fantastically as debt, which is screwing us now.

"There is more logic in humor than in anything else. Because, you see, humor is truth." ~Victor Borge, London Times, 3 January 1984

So yeah, basically. In the book Natural Capitalism, the authors call on us to establish an economy based on actual resources, fish, trees, minerals, etc. Right now we've got a system where the GDP looks better if people all eat off disposible plates rather than plates which last, because more "goods and services" are produced, though clearly less value is produced. Once we transition to clean energy however, the energy used to do something is a pretty universal metric for measuring value.

4. I couldn't agree more, but stand by for hideous blasts of hot gasses from
NNadir who hates Amory Lovins, et al. Probably because they do a great job of showing how financially unsound nukes are.
