2. Not exactly.
I think there is general agreement that Bad Things are happening, in the realm of environment and energy. Beyond that, I think there is a pretty wide range of opinions over how bad they are, and what should be done about it.

4. What pp said
If you want to get a feel for the divergence of opinion around here, just try starting a "We're totally screwed and we won't be able to fix it" thread.

By the way,
We're totally screwed and we won't be able to fix it.}(

7. Then there's the "You're totally screwed,
I'm heavily armed" crowd.

5. We occasionally have people drift through who don't think there is any problem.
Most of these people are trolls, who transparently registered an account to try and pick a fight in E/E. Regardless, anybody who can peruse a week's worth of headlines from E/E and be unconvinced is unlikely to be swayed by discussion. They inhabit a parallel reality.

8. Probably not phrased my statement correctly
What I mean is that the majority on this forum seem to generally agree with the basic problems and so we are all talking to the aware.

9. I once posted a peak oil poll
over in the lounge. It got no responses. It's the old story of the grasshopper and the ants.

10. That part is definitely true.
This place is self-selecting. Most people who wander in here and pull up a chair already have some clue how bad things have gotten. Only a minuscule fraction of the people on the planet have any idea how close to the edge we really are. To the vast majority the kind of stuff that gets talked about here is either incomprehensible, irrelevant or viewed as gratuitous fear-mongering.

'Twas ever thus, I'm afraid.

12. I think it's fair to say
that most of the regulars here are a few standard deviations away from the norm. ;) (Oh, and that most of the regulars understood that comment.)

One thing to consider though is that Google indexes these threads, so the curious may stumble upon them. (So, try to sound authoritative people!)

14. I have only recently found this forum
I don't know why I haven't checked this out before. The information is timely and very relevant.
It's also very obvious the posters in here are very knowledgeable.
I might not post that often unless it is something I feel somewhat informed about.
This all is of interest to me......it has been for years.
I'm glad I stumbled across it.....and I imagine there may be more people watching this than you think.

16. not at all
although everyone agrees that there are environmental problems,
there are profound differences in opinion
on what to do.

the only things I see people agreeing on what to do, is,

somebody else has to pay
somebody else's lifestyle must go down
NIMBY

18. Maybe, but it is a good place to share information.
Then I share that information with family, friends and coworkers. So, I think it's good.
