Albania to Invest in Kosovo's Power (coal to replace failing hydro)
Over the past two years, Albania has been hit by an acute energy crisis, with regular power cuts throughout the country, including in the capital Tirana.

Almost all of Albania's domestically-produced electricity is generated by hydro-power plants, which are badly affected by droughts but even when rain is plentiful, the obsolete distribution grid causes major problems.

Kosovo's authorities are expected to select a bidder to build a new power plant in the newly independent state, which also frequently battles energy shortages.

The Kosovo C coal-fired power plant will have a capacity of producing 1800 to 2100 megawatts of electricity, and will exploit the country's largest mineral resource.
