Green Works from Clorox

http://www.greenworkscleaners.com/

Anyone tried them yet? Why they didn't do this 30 years ago is beyond me. They must be starting to loose market share to Seventh Generation, Ecover, etc....

1. Clorox is going to lose me as a customer
Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 11:48 AM by Donnachaidh
They bring out *new* products, in much smaller containers, slap a GREEN in the title somewhere, and crank the price through the roof. PRICE was my biggest reason for staying with them. But heck, they want to charge the same as the eco-products? Bye Bye Clorox.

Edit to add -- I don't believe they've done anything GREEN to their product, except perhaps to dilute the bleach more. Yup, I'm cynical as hell.

4. "...dilute the bleach more..." — This appears not to be the case
http://www.greenworkscleaners.com/products/faq.php?#a_3
...

Q. Do Green Works™ products disinfect?

A. Not yet. But our scientists are focused on evaluating natural disinfecting ingredients. We hope to incorporate disinfecting into Green Works™ cleaners in the future.

...
If they had bleach in them, the answer would be something along the lines of, "Yes! Absolutely! We'd never release a product that didn't!"

2. Forget clorox (chlorine bleach), amonia, pine oil, etc. VINEGAR is the best
natural cleaner with a natural anti-bacterial you can buy, and it mucho mucho less expensive than commercial cleaners.

I've used ammonia for years regular cleaning jobs, and clorox spray for tough jobs.

After reading about how great vinegar was on the Internet, I decided to give it a try.

Guess what? Vinegar outperformed all the other cleaners, 409, Fantastic, no name brands, etc.

And it only costs $1.50 for a gallon of it.

I keep a spray bottle filled with vinegar for most cleaning jobs.

AND I'm not harming the environment at all.

3. Warning!: Smug Storm Approaching!

South Park Episode...

On a more serious note I guess I agree. Even tho it smells like something else.

At the rate basic food is going through the roof I guess I need to consider cleaning with it again.

6. I like to use Simple Green.
Yeah, a gallon may cost you $8 or so but a gallon jug will last you for months. I use 10% Simple Green/90% H2O for my laundry stain remover ( I use Seventh Generation as my detergent and use about 1/2 of what is recommended per load). About the same for basic cleaning in the kitchen, bathrooms etc ....
Sometimes I will use it straight to cut grease from cooking pots and stuff, it works great for that.

I only use bleach in certain situations. A 1 quart bottle of Clorox lasts me for months. More than once I have had the bleach go stale and lose its effectiveness because I had it sitting around so long.
I don't put too much faith in disinfectants or anti-bacterial soaps and stuff. Those things may be doing more harm than good.

7. there's GOT to be something toxic in Simple Green
Just the smell of Simple Green makes me twitch and get irritable. Going on this purely anecdotal evidence, I say that Simple Green is toxic as shit.

8. The smell is of annise(licorice-like)
Well, it does not appeal to everyone, I'll grant you that. But they do make other types such as a lemon/citrus scented one I have used now and again.

I know for a fact that Simple Green is biodegradable. Some time ago I used the stuff to clean some equipment with some kitchen grease on them. I left them in an open container to soak in the full strength cleaner. I left it out too long. If you leave Simple Green open to the air, it will actually start to rot and spoil creating an even more disgusting mess than what you started with.

11. It may be a sensitivity on your part
A few years back, I was performing a role on-stage which required me to wear a lot of makeup. To be helpful, our makeup guy obtained special hypoallergenic makeup. During our dress rehearsal, I couldn't stop crying. For performances, I wore lots of good old-fashioned "grease paint" and I was just fine.

That's how I found out I had a sensitivity to chamomile.

10. Unlike the others, "Simple Green" does not disclose its ingredients
The Material Safety Data Sheet isn't a lot of help either, but it probably isn't toxic:
http://www.simplegreen.com/pdfs/07_msds_simple_green_pad.pdf
...

The only ingredient of Simple Green ® with established exposure limits is undiluted 2-butoxyethanol (<6%) (Butyl Cellosolve; CAS No. 111-76-2): the ACGIH TLV-TWA is 20 ppm (97 mg/m 3). Based upon chemical analysis, Simple Green ® contains no known EPA priority pollutants, heavy metals or chemicals listed under RCRA, CERCLA, or CWA. Analysis by TCLP (Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure) according to RCRA revealed no toxic organic or inorganic constituents. All components of Simple Green ® are listed on the TSCA Chemical Substance Inventory.
