Wal-Mart To Source All House Brand Milk From Non-BGH Dairies - ENN
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc said on Thursday that its private-label Great Value milk is now being sourced only from cows that have not been treated with artificial growth hormones, such as recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST).

The retailer said its Sam's Club chain also is offering milk selections from suppliers that have pledged not to treat cows with rbST.

3. Milk is horrible stuff and I can't get near it.
However, if I could drink it, I'd get it there because of this policy.

Health food store milk has gone completely out of sight.

2. I really hate wal-mart... but... "Good Decision"!!!

Someday we are going to realize that drugs and hormones in the food supply are radically affecting our children.

4. In the here and now, we already know that BST causes an increase in
bovine mastitis and subsequently increased use (and abuse) of antibiotics in dairy cattle which we KNOW causes increased risk of antibiotic-resistant bacteria spilling over into humans.

The hormones/kids thing is "unproven", though I have noted that kids seem to be growing a lot bigger at an earlier age since they started using that damned stuff in cows. Had a client whose 13-month-old daughter was talller than most 6-yr-olds.......

6. I have a 12 year old niece
and I help her and her friends by doing afternoon tutoring sessions.

Now, I'm old... but I sure don't remember 6th graders looking the way THESE girls look.

Maybe it's my imagination, or maybe it's the growth hormones and preservatives and stuff, but these girls look like what I remember high school girls looking like. Mature high school girls.

8. Private industry doing what the state can not seem to do
In many places hormone free labels on more items than just milk are banned or restricted due to the power of the major food companies. WalMart may be the only company in the US large enough to force the issue.

9. Whoa!
That's a pretty bold step.

I don't drink milk - if necessary will use Rice milk - basically BECAUSE of the rbST. I stopped after it came out this way in the 90s.

Anyway, that's truly great news for anyone who drinks milk.
