NRG starts on new Texas wind farm

USA: NRG Energy, via its subsidiary Padoma Wind Power, has begun construction on the Elbow Creek Wind Project, a 122 MW wind farm in Howard County, near Big Spring, Texas.

The project will be built on a 6,700 acre tract of land, with the wind turbines installed around 2,800 feet (853.4 m) above sea level. Construction is expected to take nine months, with commercial operation beginning by the end of the year. The project will use 53 Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbine generators.

The Elbow Creek Wind Project is part of NRG's US$10 billion program investing in nuclear, wind, gas and coal-fueled power generation.
