The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement
Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 01:10 PM by Annces
I have read just a little, but it is extremely funny and hits the mark too.

excerpt -
When Ice Age humans hunted animals to extinction, at least one of the Neanderdunces among them must have grunted in bewilderment. As the Fertile Crescent became a barren desert, and the Cedars of Lebanon were sacrificed for temples, someone must have thought, "this bodes ill." When Romans fueled their empire by extracting resources from near and far, surely someone remarked, "Humanus non gratis," or words to that effect. Someone had to get the idea that the planet would be better off without this busy horde.

1. It's Based On The False Asumption
that there is some sort of eden like paradise under
all the asphalt and pollution. It's romantic nonsense.

2. I've been VeHEMenT about their cause for years.
Voluntary sterilization, contraception, abortion, assisted suicide, euthanasia on request, I'm in favour of it all.

When we give up the right to control our lives and our bodies we have given up the core of our autonomy.

7. I've been a member for years. I'm proud of it no matter what anyone feels.
At first I joined just for moral support, I was so horrified at the idea of giving the next 80/90 years to a new little me and some of my relatives are pressuring me in weird sick ways just to have The Baby. Then I found VHEMT and I saw a group who faced the truth, what our population explosion has meant for the planet and all the rest of the animals (yeah I respect the animals, guess I'm a softy :eyes:) it's gotten so off balance we're threatening the future of our own species. I think people who add more rich 1st-world consumers should feel shame from now on.

There are a lot of smart members with good info to share. We're picked year after year as "Environmental Extremists" and I'm proud of that. I laugh at people who put down VHEMT, they might think we're silly but I think considering humans better than the rest of nature is silly.

8. (and, to answer the above opinion)
(I've been a member since 2002 and there's never been anything like an "eden like paradise" ever mentioned. There's nothing "romantic" about the group.
No precious sweetness among us at all.)
