EBay Inc. on Thursday unveiled the largest commercial solar installation in San Jose.

The 649.6-kilowatt installation includes 3,248 solar panels and covers 60,000 square feet on several buildings in the company's north campus.

Foster City's SolarCity Inc., which installed the system, said Thursday it will offer special deals to eBay's employees to encourage them to buy solar systems for their homes.

SolarCity officials estimated that the eBay system will offset 37 million pounds of carbon dioxide during its 30-year life and save the company $100,000 in electricity costs. The price of the system was not disclosed.
