What is the real price of gasoline - an estimate prepared by the INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR TECHNOLOGY
Assessment.

THE REAL PRICE OF GASOLINE

Low estimate: $5.60/gallon
High estimate: $15.14/gallon
W/price spike: $15.37/gallon

"The report divides the external costs of gasoline
usage into five primary areas:
(1) Tax Subsidization of the Oil Industry; (2) Government Program Subsidies;
(3) Protection Costs Involved in Oil Shipment and Motor Vehicle Services;
(4) Environmental, Health, and Social Costs of Gasoline Usage; and
(5) Other Important Externalities of Motor Vehicle Use.

Together, these external costs total $558.7 billion to
$1.69 trillion per year, which, when added to the retail
price of gasoline, results in a per gallon price of $5.60
to $15.14."

but this estimate was made in 1998! I wonder what the estimate would be now with the EXXON_Cheney IRAQ adventure figured in:

This is a thoroughly documented estimate with 126 footnotes/references.

4. I didn't think it was that high elsewhere.
I thought closer to $6/gal in Europe for example.

5. A bit more - remember, it's usually price per litre
rather than gallon, so you have to convert.

CNN Money had an interesting article with some averages a week or so ago:

6. Thanks. Interesting.
Our gas is really quite cheap relatively speaking, even at current prices.

I can't imagine the effect on our economy if the price doubles.
