Saudi Arabia rebuffs Bush on oil production
White House says Riyadh doesn't see enough demand to raise output

Associated Press

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - The White House said Friday that Saudi Arabia's leaders are making clear they see no reason to increase oil production until customers demand it.

President Bush was in the oil-rich country to appeal to King Abdullah for greater production to help halt rising gas prices in the United States.

But his national security adviser, Stephen Hadley, said Saudi officials stuck to their position that they already are meeting demand.

Hadley told reporters, "What they're saying to us is ... Saudi Arabia does not have customers that are making requests for oil that they are not able to satisfy."

Bush: Saudi Oil Won't Solve U.S. Energy Problems

2008-05-17 07:11am

President Bush said Saturday that even if Saudi Arabia had agreed this week to a U.S. demand to dramatically increasing the amount of oil being pumped into the market, it wouldn't solve American energy problems.

The Saudis agreed to a modest increase - far less than the president had sought - but Bush said Americans needed to do "more at home" to bring down soaring gasoline and energy prices.

Bush, speaking after a private meeting with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai on the lawn of a resort overlooking the Red Sea in Egypt, discussed initiatives he has proposed over the years but which have been stalled in Congress.

Those measures include development of alternative fuels, increasing domestic oil exploration and gasoline refinery capacity, and improving conservation.

7. So why the hell has he visited Saudi Arabia TWICE this year to ask for oil increases?
If their increased production won't help, why is he practically begging them to open up the taps?

8. Bush: "It's not my fault. It's Congress' fault. No! It's your own damned fault."
This stuff is hard! and you people are nothing but ingrates.

How many times have I begged and pleaded with you to conserve energy!?
