Climate Bill Dies In US Senate - ENN
Don't worry, guys - PLENTY of time yet!

:silly:

U.S. legislation that would have set up a cap-and-trade system to limit climate-warming carbon emissions died on Friday after a procedural vote in the Senate.

The bill, which had bipartisan support but not enough to overcome opposition, aimed to cut total U.S. global warming emissions by 66 percent by 2050. Opponents said it would cost jobs and raise fuel prices in an already pinched American economy.

Known as the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act, the bill's chances of passage were always slim. Even if Congress had approved it, President George W. Bush had vowed a veto.

Bush has consistently opposed any economy-wide program to curb the carbon dioxide emissions that spur climate change, arguing that this would hurt the U.S. economy.

1. The Lieberman-Warner bill was not a good bill. this article makes it sound like one.
It was all about funneling tax money towards nuclear plants.

kill jobs until people finally realize that MAKING things CREATES jobs?

BTW, it wasn't just a bad bill, but a horrible, pro-nuke, anti-alternative-energy, business-as-usual, handouts-for-corporations bill. They didn't kill it, they murdered it.

Edit to add:

RIP

4. I didn't realize it was pro-Nuke
We need to start building Nuclear plants as fast as we can. We need to start using our vast coal reserves now and we need to start drilling for oil in our country. This is the only thing that will get OPECs attention. Just the threat of added supply will lower prices. When I was worked for a large beverage company we needed to lower the price of PET bottles so we set up a corporation of 2 people with alot of cash and their job was to go through the motions of setting up a PET plant within 5 miles of our suppliers. We met with the cities, we got permits and we hired architects. For a small amount of investment we lowered our price of PET by millions just by threatening to build these plants.

However, we nee to do more than threaten we need to use real technology that exists today to get us by for the next 15 to 20 years while alternatives are created.

I have already written my Senators and Congressman in Florida telling them my support for drilling in the Gulf. I used to be against it but Katrina proved our drilling platform technology is far superior to days past. Anyway, Cuba is going to within 50 miles anyway; so we should as well. We should not be using any oil to produce electricity; that will take alot pressure off demand. It should be 100% coal and nuke.
