Nuclear cost law a "mistake," state senator who voted for it now says

Tampa Bay legislators plan on taking a whack at a two-year-old law that allows Progress Energy to charge customers for its $17-billion nuclear project years before it starts producing electricity.

The law paved the way for the average Progress Energy bill to rise by about $13 a month, contributing to the 25 percent increase customers will see starting in January.

Customers just can’t afford it, said state Sen. Mike Fasano, who voted for the law in 2006. Fasano now says his vote was a “mistake.” He did not realize just how high bills would go, he said.

<snip>

Jeff Lyash, president and chief executive of Progress Energy, said Thursday afternoon that if the law were repealed, “We would not be able to build this project.”

1. Ahhh, too bad, so sad.. invest in solar for million, not nuclear for billions.
I'm extremely pissed about this law.. there have been 2 installments leading to an avg. $30.00 increase.. we're hemorraging jobs.. hello, asshat pukes. On top of that, we pay a lovely $8.00 and some change as a charge for the cleanup from the hurricanes in 2004. I'm sure all new arrivals to the area just think is a normal service fee... No, its a cleanup fee. It was supposed to be removed when the cleanup costs were covered. I'm sure they have been, but no one pays any attention.. and our govt officials are in bed with the electric companies.. so, we continue paying.. I've contacted Fasano many times. It takes him months to respond with an e-mail form letter. Piece of shit.

3. What an asshole. God forbid that yuppies be required to do anything for the future.
The same asshole Senator probably doesn't give a fuck how much coal waste gets dumped in Florida.

Some years ago, stupid yuppies in Florida agreed to ignore the vast destruction associated with the 1500 MWe Polk coal facility - which is killing the future of Florida even as we speak - if the utility would build a tiny stupid shell game IGCC coal facility that they could pretend "could" capture carbon dioxide "some day."

These plants are killing the future of every child in Florida living right now.

The number of dumb fundie anti-nukes who give a rat's ass about this murder of the Florida future - one of the first states that will be destroyed by climate change, is predictably, zero.

Dangerous fossil fuels dominate Florida's electricity requirements. It's a tragedy, particularly since the weeney failed "renewable industry" in that state, couldn't produce as much, in magic "percent talk" electricity in 2006 - last year on record - as it could in 1990. It went from "trivial" to "even more trivial."

The fact that yuppie brats have no sense of responsibility to future generations sucks.

Self absorbed indiffernt fucks.

5. No what sucks is you can't mount an argument without personal attacks
and a re read of what all your replies seem to turn into. You see in my world we don't have Gods and we don't believe in an Armageddon and all that crap to take care of the radioactive waste either. I'm sorry but there won't be a resurgent of new nuclear power plants in the near future if ever at all. Its just not going to happen. Theres a whole lot more of us against producing more radioactive waste when there is still no viable solution for safeguarding it than there is for creating more. Calling me names is not acceptable either. What we need to do is put the efforts and money spent into R&D in alternate energies.

Oh and you can kiss my non fundie yuppie ass if you think you have to engage in more of your childish name calling trash talk too.

6. KnoW what sucks is that whiny brats who are contemptuous and fierce
Edited on Sat Dec-13-08 05:15 PM by NNadir
in their stupidity think that they DESERVE better than they give.

I couldn't care less what is in your useless pedestrian world. You are spectacularly misinformed, uneducated and every bit as rude as I am.

The difference between you and me is that I am HONEST with myself. I don't care what whiny little yuppie brats give out in their contempt for humanity.

You must have mistaken me for someone who has even a shred of respect for your position. This is not my fault. I have never indicated anywhere that I have such a shred.

This is because your attention is arbitrary.

And no you should KNOW, I do not intend to kiss your yuppie fundie ass. I intend to EXPOSE your yuppie fundie ass, because you have no fucking idea where to store dangerous fossil fuel waste for eternity, because you couldn't care less about the loss of life from dangerous fossil fuel waste, because you don't give a rat's ass about dangerous fossil fuel terrorism, and because you couldn't care less about dangerous fossil fuel sustainability, subsidies or economics.

To that, I will add my disgust and distain for the contempt that you, Giggles and the rest of the morally indifferent flakes have for science.

Have a fucking giggle:

You couldn't care less.

If you can't stand the heat, whiny boy, get out of the kitchen.
