One million migratory birds slaughtered in Cyprus
NICOSIA (Reuters) - More than 1.1 million songbirds prized as culinary delicacies were illegally slaughtered by trappers in Cyprus in the past year, a conservation group said Tuesday.

Cyprus lies on a key migratory route and bird trapping has been commonplace for years. Trappers use either fine mist nets or sticks dipped in sticky lime.

"The figure is an unacceptable toll which ever way you look at it," said Martin Hellicar, executive manager for Birdlife Cyprus.

1. The trappers should be caught,
strapped into a chair for eight hours a day with their eyes propped open and forced to watch Hitchcock's "The Birds"

3. I agree with most of what you say ...
... but would simply suggest that instead of watching a film,
the chairs (+securely strapped trappers) be placed outside
so the crows/rooks/ravens & magpies can teach them a more
direct lesson ...

2. I guess the people enjoyed their meals
I mean that's what matters the most, right?

6. I trust you're not claiming to be vegan ...
... when your whole reputation depends on eating billy-goats?

7. ???
I don't get the billy goat reference. My nom de plum is from Hurricane Hugo in 89, which was a significant event for me.

I'm not vegan, just vegetarian. My comment was meant to be a bit sarcastic, since most folks have a soft spot for wildlife, but don't seemed concerned about the chicken sandwich they just had for lunch.

That being said, I don't mean to preach - just a snarky comment.

8. Fair enough ...
... I thought you were just trolling for another routine
carnivore/omnivore/herbivore flamefest to distract from
the OP ...
