House passes long-stalled bill to expand wilderness protection in 9 states

The House has passed and sent to President Barack Obama a long-delayed bill to set aside more than 2 million acres in nine states as protected wilderness.

The 285-140 vote comes two weeks after the House rejected the bill amid a partisan dispute over gun rights. The measure was brought up again in the Senate and approved last week, setting up Wednesday's vote.

Supporters said the bill would preserve national forests, parks, rivers, battlefields and other public lands for generations.

Opponents, mostly Republicans, called the bill a "land grab" that would block energy development on vast swaths of federal land.

1. This is great
Only Repubs would think to call this a "land grab". It's saving this land for public use for the future. I also was happy when they passed a law against mountain top mining.

2. "land grab"
I just heard that on the news :banghead: :banghead:

'a "land grab" of land that needs to be used for drilling or whatever' is what I just heard on the news. Those people can rot in Hell, any of their people who ever once voted against the environment can rot in Hell. They make me so ashamed of being human. I have absolutely no hope knowing so many educated rich Amuricans think that way.

3. "long stalled' -- gee, I wonder what the holdup was.
Actually, no -- no, I don't. Repugs are the intestinal blockage of politics, and Bu**sh** was the biggest clot of them all.
