My town just erected a wind turbine generator
I was pretty cool watching it go up.

1. Very cool. We have over two hundred in the area... pushing toward 500.

4. Not given to jealousy, but am jealous of you!
I sit by my window and watch the various (really big) parts of them go by on trucks, but the locals here just won't go for them. One family wanted to put them up just outside town and they would have powered us all with electricity to spare, but the locals just hate any new (read:DEM) ideas. x(

Some Hutterite colonies in Montana are putting them up to power up heat for hen houses. They are doing well selling eggs and poultry. They have lots of power for more irrigation pumps so their wheat, barley, alfalfa fields are very productive.

But the locals where I am? Nah, they would rather whine about their power bills and buy great food somebody else produces.

Can I move now?

6. People drive down from Chicago (75 miles away) to sit and watch our turbines
There are two wind farms in the area and a third being built. Sitting and watching the blades make slow, almost lazy turns is quite relaxing. The white turbines set against a blue sky and surrounded by farms are very visually appealing.

8. I recently caught a "Living with Ed"
where Ed was having a residential vertical axis turbine installed. It was cool! Bill Nye was so jealous! I want one too!

Ed had something that looked like the Seahawk, here: http://www.pacwind.net/products.html

In the same episode, Ed's wife, Rachelle, was having a solar light installed. It was amazing how much sunlight these 'lights' re-directed. Very cool! http://www.solatube.com/homeowner/

So this trubine will contribute toward the city's utilities? Did you vote on it? It's a great idea.

9. The town overwhelmingly voted for it
the energy is sold to the electric company which credits the town account.
