More Fake Letters to Congress on Climate Change
Looks like the coal industry is using the Big Lie to fight energy legislation.

Published: August 19, 2009
Congressional investigators have uncovered five more letters sent to members of Congress that falsely claimed to be from charities expressing opposition to climate change legislation.

The new letters bring to nine the number of nonprofit organizations whose identities were appropriated by Bonner & Associates, a Washington lobbying firm that says it specializes in developing grass-roots support for lobbying campaigns.

Jack Bonner, the lobbying firm's founder, has said a temporary employee was responsible for the fake letters and has been fired.

The new letters claim to be from organizations serving the elderly, like the Slippery Rock Senior Center in Slippery Rock, Pa., whose name and logo were appropriated in a letter sent to Representative Kathy Dahlkemper, Democrat of Pennsylvania.

2. Everyone who is surprised, please raise your hand
Saying, "There was a fake letter sent, but we found it." is a bit like saying, "We had a mouse, but the cat killed it."
