7.8-magnitude quake rocks South Pacific
http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/10/07/solomon.islands.earthquake/index.html

(CNN) -- An major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 struck Thursday morning near the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Thursday's quake struck near the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued an expanding regional tsunami warning and watch for parts of the Pacific near the earthquake's epicenter, which was in the ocean about 160 miles (260 km) south of Lata, Santa Cruz Islands, in the Solomons' Temotu Province.

The center also issued a tsunami advisory, meaning the possibility of a tsunami exists, for Hawaii and said further evaluation of the event could see the threat alert elevated.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

This quake was followed less than an hour later by a 7.3 quake.

7. I believe that 7.8 was upgraded to an 8.1
Ring of fire seems unusually awake this week. Guess I better double check supplies, and make sure all the glass stuff won't fall and break. I usually keep everything safely away, but it's an effort to keep things in that condition, and eh, I'm lazy.

I appreciate the warnings we seem to be getting, but I am sorry for the associated loss of life and property.
