Kan & Sarkozy to cooperate in handling nuke crisis

The leaders of Japan and France have confirmed that they will work together to solve the ongoing crisis at the quake-damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy visited Prime Minister Naoto Kan's office in Tokyo on Thursday.

He added that he was shocked to see footage disaster-stricken areas, but deeply impressed by the heroic operations now under way at the nuclear plant.

After the meeting, Kan and Sarkozy held a news conference and announced that France will lead the international community to help Japan resolve the problems at the crippled plant and come up with decontamination measures. France has the second largest of nuclear power stations in the world.

1. Why wasn't this done from the getgo? It was patently obvious that
the situation was dire. Why wasn't the international demanding involvement?

2. "US to send (specialized, Marine) emergency response unit to Japan"

I really don't understand why this didn't happen weeks ago--U.S., France, the international community rallying to this nuke crisis. And I'm afraid that is has to do with PRIVATE ENTERPRISE--the Japanese government and others deferring to Tepco, with Tepco LYING about the magnitude of the crisis and trying to "save" its billion-dollar plant, as the cost of workers' lives, lives in the neighborhood and who knows how many other lives and ecosystems to come.
