A Mix of Oil and Environmentalism - NYT
Edited on Fri Oct-06-06 08:44 AM by NastyDiaper
I dodged the front page and went to the Business section of the NY Times today hoping for a break from Foley. And maybe politics. But I could not help wanting to comment on the section's first article:

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, Russia — For more than a decade, Dmitri V. Lisitsyn waged a lonely, losing battle to protect the local salmon and gray whales from the world’s large oil companies, which are turning bucolic Sakhalin Island into an industrial hub for energy in Asia.

Maybe, Mr. Cheney, the Russian Government is afraid that Oil Companies will Pay Off rather than Pay Up.
Maybe, Mr. Cheney, the world thinks that you are responsible for bringing up the price of oil, and the deal was made in bad faith.
Maybe, Mr. Cheney, oil companies have thrived so much on demonizing and slandering, nobody is left to care that poor exxon is getting the shaft.
Maybe, Mr. Cheney, diplomacy matters.

Do you really want new enemies, Mr. Cheney, or do you just have a longing for the old ones?
