PowerLight breaks ground on a 20 MW photovoltaic project in Spain

Spanish energy developer Elecnor, S.A. and PowerLight broke ground today on a 20 megawatt solar power system in the town of Trujillo, Cáceres in Spain.

The project will be owned by Fotowatio Energía Solar, and will cover an area of approximately 100 hectares.

“With the development of La Magascona, PowerLight further advances its goal of deploying large-scale, emissions-free solar power plants throughout Europe,” said Marco Northland, PowerLight General Manager for Europe. “With over 45 MWs of PowerTracker projects in deployment in Spain and Portugal through 2007, PowerLight continues to lead the market in providing single-axis solar tracking systems for utility-scale power plants.”

PowerLight was recently selected by a leading solar developer for another 12 MW project in Spain, which will be deployed in 2007.
