Vestas goes public with plan (for CO wind turbine blade plant)

WINDSOR - In what was more a polite introduction than a development review session, Windsor planners on Thursday got their first public glimpse of a Danish wind turbine maker's proposal for a factory east of Windsor.

Officially, the site plan presentation marked the first step in an annexation process that would give Windsor jurisdiction over the 80-acre site in the Great Western Industrial Park where Vestas Wind Systems A/S would put at least 450 people to work making giant blades for wind turbines.

The company is currently negotiating the land purchase with Great Western's owner, Denver-based Broe Cos., a diversified real estate, energy, rail transport and shipping business.

"We're pleased to be working with this company out of Denmark," Eric Swanson, senior vice president of Broe Land Co., told commissioners and planning staff members Thursday night. "There are a lot of details that have to be figured out and resolved on this project."

1. Can somebody explain to me why all the wind turbine manufacturers
are foreign companies? They don't seem to have a problem finding workers for their plants in the US, either. So WHY THE HELL isn't there an AMERICAN company doing the same??????

OMG. We are so lazy. If we can't make money by exploiting third-worlders at slave wages I guess we just don't want to make any money at all.

2. GE makes turbines in Florida - The reason most turbines are foreign-made is that
unlike our (un)wise Republic presidents and congresses, those governments provided firm long-term commitments to wind (and PV) manufacturers to develop products and markets...
