TXU, Waco Talking "Clean Coal" For 2 Plants - IGCC, No Sequestration, 1 Plant Lignite-Powered
Squeaky clean!! :eyes:

Community leaders and the proposed buyers of TXU plan today to discuss building a “clean coal” electric plant in McLennan County, just weeks after TXU abandoned its plans to build two traditional coal plants here.

State Sen. Kip Averitt, R-McGregor, called the meeting today in Waco between the investors and officials with the city of Waco, McLennan County and the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce, all of whom opposed TXU’s earlier coal plans.

The investors, including Texas Pacific Group and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, have said they’ll pull the plug on eight of the 11 coal-fired power units TXU had planned in Texas. That includes two units at Tradinghouse Creek and one at Lake Creek, both in eastern McLennan County. But the investors also have said they want to find a new use for those sites, which currently have antiquated gas-fired power plants.

They will also seek to build two plants in Texas using Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC), an emerging technology that reduces key pollutants by turning coal into synthetic gas before burning it. TXU would burn Wyoming coal at one, lignite at the other. Averitt said community leaders and the investors today can sound each other out on a number of issues, including the possibility of an IGCC plant here.
