Repeated canecharge on aspirants for cell phones - Kashmir
Driven by craze or need for mobile connectivity, thousands of people today swarmed the Central Telecom Office of the BSNL here for application forms, forcing para-military men to resort to repeated but mild cane charge to discipline the crowd.
A long queue spreading from the office to the near-by Kothi Bagh school saw no squeeze for hours together. Most of the aspirants waited for four to six hours to get the application form and by 3 PM when the counters were closed, thousands of forms were distributed. "More than 3000 forms were distributed and the issuance of forms would continue till August 25", said G S Marshall, general manager, BSNL, Kashmir circle.

Though India has had cell phone service for about 10 years the government would not allow them in Kashmir until today. Reason; criminals and militants might use cell phones. We need to put this type of clause in Bush's Patriot Act.
