Shotguns among most popular weapons for criminals in New York City

Shotguns are no longer just for farmers.

For the first time in seven years, shotguns are among the most popular weapons of criminals in New York City.

Federal data show that 394 shotguns were seized from thugs in the city last year - making the weapon the fourth most popular gun among criminals.

Handguns are still city criminals' favored weapon, said Michael Sullivan, acting director of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Some 3,260 of the 5,913 firearms taken from city crooks were semiautomatic pistols. Revolvers were second on the list of seized guns with 1,637 traced by the feds, Sullivan said.

...

The headline is amazingly misleading. 400 shotguns vs 4000+ handguns

2. How many of the crooks carrying 5,913 firearms are serving time for violating state or federal gun
laws and I mean sentences sequential not concurrent?

I'll bet very few and if I'm right, then New York City is another instance of someone blaming guns and not aggressively enforcing existing laws.

Enough already, put criminals behind bars and leave law-abiding citizens who want to exercise RKBA alone. :grr:

4. Yes, misleading. like "Huckabee among the top..."

".. contenders for the Republican nomination"

I'd bet a bunch of those shotguns (and handguns) were found on convicted felons who were let out of prison early. Or who pleaded to a lesser charge with no time at all.

Legalize drugs, enforce the remaining current laws, and I bet the crime rate would plummet.

Install universal health care, and the crime rate would further decline.

And, if you see a guy in the city with a long coat and a black & red plaid cap, beware.

edit to add picture of shotgun-totin' gangsta.

6. Gun prohibition resonates with drug prohibition...
As the years go by, one drug "falls out of favor" among the prohibitionists and they go to another. During the 70s it was "marijuana gateway," followed by powdered cocaine, then in the 80s it was "crack cocaine," then a resurgence of the old stand by Heroin in the early 90s, then "Ecstasy" at the end of the 90s, now its "meth." Tomorrow?

Old Stevens double-barrel shotguns filled with ground up mushrooms and peyote buttons.
