Gun-control group secures $350,000 grant (Joyce foundation to CeaseFirePA)

The state's largest gun control group, CeaseFirePA, is getting a $350,000 grant to strengthen its advocacy efforts statewide.

The Chicago-based Joyce Foundation is granting the organization the money over two years to aid its bid to build a statewide, grass-roots response to gun violence, CeaseFirePA's executive director Joe Grace said.

Although the six-year-old nonprofit group, which focuses on stopping gun violence and access to illegal handguns, is based in Philadelphia, it is making its grant announcement today at Pittsburgh police headquarters to underscore its efforts to work with legislators, police and residents around Pennsylvania.

CeaseFirePA supports laws, such as one defeated by the state House on April 1, requiring gun owners to report to police within 72 hours if their handguns are lost or stolen.

Gun Control astro-turf at its finest.

FWIW, Obama was on the Joyce foundations board of directors 1994-2002.

2. BO has a problem explaining his close ties to Joyce now that he pretends to be pro-RKBA. He needs to
CHANGE his position and HOPE gun owners believe his latest flip-flop.

3. carving it in stone would do wonders
Imagine, taking a hardline stand in public that would guarantee him a big chunk of 80 million potential votes.

Heck, even walking in the front door of the NRA and talking turkey with Lapierre might be a good idea at this point.

4. Ooh, "a big chunk"

Imagine, taking a hardline stand in public that would guarantee him a big chunk of 80 million potential votes.

I'll bet that means "a majority", just like "much" does. A big chunk sounds like more than much to me.

How big is that chunk, d'you want to say?

And to whom would one address one's self to collect on that guarantee in the event of breakage?

7. nah, I was just trying to "imagine"

that being what you suggested we do, and about the sum total of what you seem to want to say.

Does imagining things will happen work well for you?

6. another batch of cons on the teat
with just over $27 million given away in 2007, it's no surprise that the dot-orgs are lined up at the trough.
