9. Uh, have you read the constitution lately?
It doesn't require you to be in the milita in order to own guns. However, it does classify all eligible and able-bodied Americans of the appropriate ages as being "unorganized militia."

I'm right and wrong.

In Virginia the militia IS 55 BUT..the wording is noncommital on service of both sexes

from the 1623 original *In 1623 the Virginia General Assembly commanded, "that men go not to worke in the ground without their arms; That no man go or send abroad without a sufficient partie well armed."

BUT a later update says

*n 1971, the Virginia Bill of Rights under Article I, Section 13, was changed to the following:

"That a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe defense of a free state, therefore, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; that standing armies, in time of peace, should be avoided as dangerous to liberty; and that in all cases the military should be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power."*

So the gender thing is questionable

52. Not in the constitution.
The Militia Act of 1792 defines it as all able-bodied white males age 18 to 45. Later that was expanded to all able-bodied men 17 to 45, and armed forces veterans up to age 64, as well as all women within the National Guard pool. Some states have explicit laws expanding eligibility to include women. For instance, Washington state says all able-bodied citizens 18 and up, without exception for gender or age.

17. CA males between 18 and 45 are in the militia.
See CALIFORNIA CODES, MILITARY AND VETERANS CODE, SECTION 120-130
120. The militia of the State shall consist of the National Guard, State Military Reserve and the Naval Militia--which constitute the active militia --and the unorganized militia.

121. The unorganized militia consists of all persons liable to service in the militia, but not members of the National Guard, the State Military Reserve, or the Naval Militia.

122. The militia of the State consists of all able-bodied male citizens and all other able-bodied males who have declared their intention to become citizens of the United States, who are between the ages of eighteen and forty-five, and who are residents of the State, and of such other persons as may upon their own application be enlisted or commissioned therein pursuant to the provisions of this division, subject, however, to such exemptions as now exist or may be hereafter created by the laws of the United States or of this State.

be fed for the price of a a new Prius versus the old Geo that I drive. My geo gets just as good gas mileage and cost $500.00 instead of $24,00.00. And I have no where near $23,500.00 in guns. Of course my Geo isn't the same as a big trendy sign that says "Look how much I care!". I don't need a status symbol to drive me to work. How much money has gone into those expensive things?
This game could be played with anything that costs money that Americans are fond of buying.

Of course some of the money I save NOT driving my Xterra goes into ammunition for my shooting hobby. About $300 so far this month of March. Gotta buy it when you find it in this ammo poor market. :)

13. The 30-06 probably, the 9mm I doubt it.
Chances are that such a large purchase of 30-06 would be military surplus rounds, meaning that they'd be at least mostly lead free. I'm not aware of lead free 9mm rounds, though, but I might just never have heard of them.

26. Killed anybody yet?
I own guns also. I don't need that much ammo. The old saying is, "Never shoot to wound. Always shoot to kill."
I got all of my target practice in back before the NRA became a fascist lobbying propaganda mouthpiece and was just an organization that taught gun saftey. I have what is called excellent aim.

Another thing one learns is that you only have a 20% chance of hitting a moving target unless your skeet shooting or aiming at a static trajectory or have 'heat seeking bullets'. The target has an 80% chance of getting away.

My guns are for protection. I no longer hunt. I'm not a gun nut. A gun is a tool not a reason for living. It can be a reason for dying. If you live by the sword you will die by the sword.

73. Are you trying to be obtuse?
Where did I say it has to be a carbine? I have been a shooter for a lot of years and don't recall ever seeing a 9mm pistol with a scope...it isn't common...care to dispute that too? I asked a question to a poster and you decide to begin talking straight from your ass apparently without reading and/or comprehending.

48. Making me jealous.
I bought a couple thousand rounds last summer, then lost my job and was afraid to use it up because it's soooo expensive.

Back to work now. Back to the gun store soon.

63. if you only knew
my wife threw a fit last year over my ammo costs.

She told me to buy a bb gun so I did....a $150.00 one :)

1400 fps on .17's is a ball.

I can shoot bb's at the tree target at 100 yards or at the bluejays who harrass my swallows and cardinals.

We have about 20 cardinals who come to our feeders regular...we USED to have lots of jays who attacked them

79. How much ammo does that get, anyway?
Ballpark, that is; my horribleevilweapons collection is currently limited to armour with a sword in the future, so I'm completely without a frame of reference here.

83. Naw
You need to shoot to get/stay proficient. That's a big part of being a responsible gun owner.

84. Depends on your definition of "nut"...
I'm guessing that's about 3,000 rounds of 5.56. If it was you got a pretty good deal.

If you have enough mags to hold it all, then you are a gun nut.

If you have a plan to use it all within 24 hours, then you are a gun nut.

If you consider an ammo fort to be "fine home decor", then you are a gun nut.

If you sleep in the bathtub with your AR and a dog, you're just plain nuts.

87. That's a good start.

For those who don't know, that amount of cash might only fetch 4k of decent center-fire rifle ammo or 5-6k of pistol ammo. Depending on how much you shoot, it could be a decent stash for a few or serveral years.

Its a good investment. If you don't shoot it all in 3-4 years, it will likely be worth more than it is today.

So, what did you get?
