O.C. sheriff revoking concealed weapons permits-GOP Players connected to former sheriff
Several major GOP power brokers with ties to convicted former Orange County Sheriff Michael S. Carona are about to lose their concealed weapons permits under an order by the new sheriff.

Those who have received notices of revocation from Sheriff Sandra Hutchens include Michael Schroeder, chief political and legal advisor to Carona and a former chairman of the state Republican Party; Adam Probolsky, a GOP pollster; and Stephen Mensinger, a political ally of Carona and business executive for major GOP benefactor and developer George Argyros, public records show.

Schroeder, for one, is fighting back.

He said that on Wednesday his attorney sent a letter to Sheriff's Capt. Dave Nighswonger alleging that Hutchens' "abrupt and inappropriate attempt to strip the license violates Mr. Schroeder's rights."

The letter alleges that Hutchens is not following penal code requirements for revoking permits. Schroeder said he believes he will eventually file a lawsuit.

1. An objective system would eliminate the issuance of permits as political favors
If chief law enforcement officers were required by law to issue a permit to any person who met a specific set of qualifications, crooks like former Sheriff Michael Carona would have one less way to solicit bribes.

2. Way too often CCW are given to those with means or connections

I'd rather see shall-issue laws where if you pass the background check, get the training if required and keep your record clean you get a permit. I don't like when sheriff's can impose their personal beliefs or political biases or politcal favors in granting permits. Either all law-abiding citizens should get permits if the background check is clean or none should get them.

3. Oh, California
Not surprising. Permits are granted based on who your powerful friends are.

6. Lawsuit avalanche and LEO vacancy prediction
Hutchens seems to love doing his job just a tad too much. Sounds like the Kali DOJ is headed for a Federal spanking.
