for Republican candidates.

The one time that the Brady Campaign tried to get into politics, they came to the aide of Democrats.

23. That may be changing, however
The NRA is fully aware of 65 House Democrats and nine Senate Democrats who have indicated they will oppose any new ban on semi-automatics. Whether or not that translates into any real support in 2010 and beyond, however, remains to be seen.

41. Both of those statements aren't really true.
The NRA endorses Democrats. Fewer than they do Republicans, it's true, but more than ever before. It was something like a 60/40 split in the last election.

The Brady campaign, though they may be nominally politically neutral, is 100% organized and staffed by Republicans.

7. Well, it's not like there are a lot of options.
For interest groups that support the individual's right to keep and bear arms, they are pretty much it. What is more, most shooting clubs require membership for their NRA insurance policies. And if one does not live in the middle of nowhere, one has to shoot at a club.

They are at least theoretically nonpartisan (yeah, I know) and usually have token D.s like Gov. Strickland (OH). Of course that does not make their rants about liberals and the U.N. any better. Nor does it change the fact that they book speakers for their events that include nutcase Glenn Beck and known traitor Oliver North. If there was another group like the NRA with the Washington influence of the NRA but not so crazy right wing, I would be happy to join. As it is, the NRA and gun restriction advocates have demonized each other to such an extent that there really isn't much room for rational discussion.

They are a less and less influential group.

How much have you donated to them? hmmmmm? This year? Ever?

If you haven't, then you proved my point.

Edited on Mon Apr-06-09 04:12 PM by virginia mountainman
The NRA gave a significant amount of money to my congress critter, Rick Boucher of Virginia, and in the next election cycle, they will be giving to Jim Webb...

They do give to PRO CIVIL rights candidates.....Not to ones that wish to crap on the bill of rights, regardless of party.. Heck, in the last election cycle they gave FAR more to Democrats than your precious Brady's did..

Last year Democrats received 20 percent of the nearly $1.2 million that the NRA pumped into congressional campaign coffers—more than twice what it gave to Dems just six years earlier.

What do you think of that?

Damn republican fundraising on DU...What gaul......

39. No fund-raising for NRA or Brady: both GOP-founded & led.
Helmke couldn't even say which way he would vote in '08: Obama or McCain. Oh, well, the Brady Bunch is in a win-win situation -- push gun-control for all it's worth, cause Democratic defeats, and still get GOPers elected.

No money for that.
