Dallas woman shoots, kills intruder

DALLAS — A 26-year-old woman fatally shot a man who lived in her Red Bird apartment complex and broke into her unit Tuesday night, Dallas police said.

Two women were inside their apartment in the 8000 block of Leigh Ann Drive, which is just north of Danieldale Park and Interstate 20, when the 55-year-old man knocked on the door about 11 p.m, police said.

One of the women called police as the man tried to get inside, and the other woman shot him as he entered, causing him to stumble out the door and collapse in the grass, police said.

Paramedics arrived shortly after and took the intruder to Methodist Charlton Medical Center where he later died. The women, who did not know the man, were not injured, police said.

I really just have zero sympathy for guys who are breaking into a dwelling while the women inside are screaming.

the guy was drunk and thought he was at a different apartment. I've seen that happen before. She was well within her rights to do what she did, however.

are only the stories that make the news.

Many, many legal self defense incidents happen where no shots are fired. The presence of a firearm in the hand of an experienced individual can be one hell of a deterrent.

Of course, no statistics are complied on such events. Therefore, it's impossible to say how many times a firearm stops a criminal.
