Using gun control (both for AND against) as political top cover
Having recently read hear at DU much discussion about Sen. Feinstein's saying "not now" to gun control:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=102&topic_id=3823818

I realized something- Both supporters AND opponents of gun control have used the issue to screw
the average voter

The Republicans got people to vote against their own interests by saying "Those Democrats will take your guns".

The DLC/Third Way types are neutralizing opposition to their corporatism by using the chimera of an
assault weapons ban to quiet the left wing of the Democratic party. And why not? It worked before- for a time.

So I'll end with a question for those who think the country needs a new 'assault weapon ban'-

What progressive issues are you prepared to sacrifice in order to see a new AWB? Remember, whatever you were
willing to give up to get the last one turned out to include losing the majority in Congress to the GOP.

Sorry to say it, but-

You were played, and for no good end.
