Guns are fine. Gun fetishists are not fine.
Everyone can tell the difference, and those who are going to come into this thread and protest this the most only out themselves for what they really are.

Individual rights plus community regulation - a blended balance is what our communities and individuals deserve.

1. It can become an unhealthy addiction.
Fear and paranoia over not getting their fix.

4. Seems pretty straight forward
If you come into the thread and disagree with the OP you are by definition a fetishist, or is it fetishisti?

Would he be considered a "gun fetishist" or an over-enthusiastic hunter?

5. Well you've managed to talk but ended up saying almost nothing
I mean you stated an opinion, and then made an assertion, but offered no information. How do you define a "fetishist"? What does blended right and community regulation mean? And I wonder if you realize that your own bias against gun owners cries out from the "those who are going to come into this thread and protest this the most only out themselves for what they really are" line? I mean, what are are "they" if they refute your thread?

9. So are screwdrivers...
To most gun owners, firearms are merely tools to be used like golf clubs for a hobby, as a tool to dispatch game humanly for hunters, as an interesting and valuable investment for collectors or as a means of self defense against serious attack.

I own a number of handguns that I use for target shooting and some that I own for self defense. The majority are stored in a safe and rarely accessed. Once a year or so, I may run an oily patch through the barrel and wipe them down with a silicone rag to prevent rust. Some I use frequently for target shooting and consequentially are handled and cleaned more often. One or two are for concealed carry and are handled on a regular basis.

Do I fondle them? No, they are merely a tool like a screwdriver. They serve a purpose. The target pistols facilitate a challenging sport. Like a golfer owns a bag of clubs, each for a different task on the golf course, I own a variety of firearms in different calibers. A .22 cal target pistol is a fine and inexpensive firearm for pinking or target shooting. A .38 or .45 caliber handgun is also a lot of fun and very accurate but introduces the factor of recoil into the shooting experience. A .357 or .44 mag revolver is even more challenging to use but mastering one is rewarding and they make fine hunting weapons.

The snub nosed .38+P revolver that is my main carry weapon is basically a short range weapon with a very nasty recoil. It's not fun to practice with, but practice with a carry weapon is a must. This firearm and my other carry weapon, a four inch .357 J-frame S&W revolver are the two weapons I hope I never have to use for their intended purpose of self defense.

The average gun owner spends about as much time fondling his firearms as the average husband spends fondling his wife's high heel shoes. True, there are both gun owners and husbands who have an unhealthy fetish. In both cases, they are fortunately rare.

But if insulting gun owners makes you feel superior, then enjoy yourself. Be aware that you statement isn't very original, originalpckelly.

16. The anti-gun people need to petition the Marine Corps to drop their Creed
it's clearly a sick love affair with guns:

My Rifle (The Creed of a United States Marine)

This is my rifle.

There are many like it, but this one is MINE.

My rifle is my best friend. It is my life.

I must master it as I must master my life.

My rifle without me is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless.

I must fire my rifle true.

I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me.

I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...

My rifle and myself know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire,

the noise of our bursts, nor the smoke we make.

We know it is the hits that count. We will hit...

My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life.

Thus, I will learn it as a brother.

I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts, its accessories,
its sights, and its barrel.

I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage.

I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready.

We will become part of each other. We will...

Before God I swear this creed.

My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country.

We are the masters of our enemy.

We are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until there is no enemy, but PEACE.

-- Maj Gen WH Rupertus

14. How about the other amendments?
Should they be restricted based on perceived public good?

For instance, neo-nazis marching through predominately jewish neighborhoods, obviously the community isn't thrilled with the idea. But free speech fetishists routinely defend this behavior, they even have a club dedicated to legitimizing this extreme and unhealthy obsession (the ACLU).

I have no problem with freedom of speech, so long as it is carefully regulated, certain types are banned, and limited only to individuals cleared by the government to safely utilize it. I think it's clear that the founders never intended free speech to be absolute, or to apply to the majority of the population.

15. That's what we have now - individual rights subject to some regulation,
just as with the others. I suspect you may not be familiar with just how much regulation there already is. The gun-control lobby is trying very hard to squash the "rights" side of the equation, though.

FWIW, namecalling in the OP of a thread isn't exactly taking the moral high ground, but whatever.

20. please define "community regulation"
Because that phrase is giving me the willies.

Then define fetishist. I know people with large collections of weapons, are they fetishists? I'm a CCW holder and I carry often, am I a fetishist?

"Everyone can tell the difference" Well, since we don't all share a brain I guess we can't.

26. Passionate expression of one's beliefs is praiseworthy.
Weak one-shot rants by people afraid to debate are not praiseworthy.

I'm about as fascinated by guns as anyone else on this thread(though not nearly so knowledgeable) and I want to see zero federal government gun regulation, so I'll own the term fetishist. What do you think ought be done with me? I'm not violating any of the onerous laws on gun ownership. I don't behave violently or irresponsibly with my guns, and I believe those that do should be punished harshly. But, since you've opened this can of worms, and specifically said that I am not fine(by which I presume you mean that I am unacceptable), what's the best way to silence me and put an end to my unfine activities?

Since I turned 18 I've been collecting rifles (I'm 20 now). Currently I'm at 8 now, some (including some on this forum) think I have a "fedish". It's a hobby, each one has a specific purpose and/or history.
