Sugarmann of VPC getting hammered at Huffington Post.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/josh-sugarmann/the-collapse-of-the-ar-15_b_485957.html#comments

Sugarmann claims that the market for AR-15 pattern rifles is suffering a general collapse.

Then one reads the comments, and he is being taken to school on the subject. Here are some samples.

The real sales force behind the gun sales is Obama and company, not the NRA. If I remember correctly, it takes more than one event to set a trend. Anything else is just wishful thinking. Viva Freedom!

It's Called Market Oversaturation, People are Only willing ro buy a Name Brand AR-15 from Manufactures they recognize as Good while other less known Manufacters Suffer.

...we already had our AR-15 Type Rifles, before this whole darnTrend started.
As well as the other "Black Guns of Destruction" that VPC does not like us owning.

Did some more research. Charles Daly/KBI's bread and butter was TRADITIONALLY STYLED firearms, mostly late 1800's and early to mid 1900's designs, aiming for a relatively low price point, and their attempt to move into the market for modern style firearms in 2008 was a case of too little, too late

He gets paid better at the VPC. His salary alone is about 25% of their budget.

The AR-15 platform is not an "assault rifle". Mr. Sugarmann's claims are demonstrably incongruent with reality; either Mr. Sugarmann has not studied the subject that he is addressing, or Mr. Sugarmann is willfully misrepresenting the subject that he is addressing.

AR sales have indeed returned to normal, as it has become clear that Obama was going to ignore the call to ban modern-looking rifles. But they are still the most popular centerfire rifles on the market. When Rock River Arms, LMT, CMMG, Bushmaster, and DPMS go under because nobody is buying AR-15 type rifles anymore, let me know.

Go to the link and read the comments. Sugarmann is really getting spanked by HuffPo readers.

5. Why, WHY does HuffPo continue to service the gun-control lobby?
And represent it as a liberal influence? Surely, many of HuffPos regulars must realize that giving this "movement" regularly-scheduled bandwidth is like a Hollywood starlet ignoring a pus-oozing canker on her face.

Where is the pro-2A columnist? Where is the common sense politics on this issue? Does Huffington harbor pro-gun-control sentiments which keep her from recognizing the pro-2A left?

13. For the same reasons....
...that they service the anti-vaccination movement. HuffPo is, at times, very much full of it.

6. There is no windmill Sugarmann is not willing to tilt at

I think we have a definitive answer on that one.

He is getting his @ss handed to him in the comments to his latest drivel. I mean, his arguments are getting completely vivisected. They usually do, but the responses today are on another level, like he's getting his nose rubbed in his own shit.

8. I hope the "big spike" is drawing to a close.
I'm hopeful that firearm, or at least ammunition prices will return to normal soon. I haven't been shooting in a long time because I don't want to use the ammo I have at home and not be able to replace it, plus it's just hard to justify blowing $150 in an afternoon very often.

9. .22 conversion kits for anything that will take one.
They can litterally pay for themselves after 2-3 range sessions.

And they're great for introducing newcomers to shooting sports.

I like shooting stuff that's hard to shoot.

then a box or two of full-bore ammo. Keeps costs much lower when I'm doing pistol and two or three rifles. And I still occasionaly do days of full-bore only.

Hey, it's all about choices... :toast:

10. When the executive director of the VPC doesn't understand an AR15 ...
is not an assault rifle than the entire organization lacks creditability.

It's like saying this 2010 Chevy Impala

is the same as this NASCAR race car.

14. Sugarmann almost *is* the entire organization
The VPC is what? Sugarmann, Rand, three or four employees, maybe one or two interns, and Joyce Foundation money paying the bills. In practical terms, the VPC is Sugarmann and Rand; you have to admire their talent for self-promotion, making a two-man outfit sounds as if it's more.
