Armed woman shoots at a home invader in self defense
http://www.examiner.com/self-defense-in-national/armed-woman-shoots-at-a-home-invader-self-defense

Fearing for her safety, the woman reportedly grabbed and fired her self defense handgun, missing the intruder but causing him to jump out of a window. A neighbor is said to have helped the homeowner detail the intruder until police could arrive and arrest him. A suspect, reportedly identified as 21 year old Nicholas Adam Tanner, is said to have been taken into custody and treated for broken glass injuries to his arm and hand, according to police.

Before any nitpickers can chime in, I know this is not really a "home invasion" type of incident but in keeping with the spirit of D.U. rules on posting articles I posted the actual title used.

I really wish people would understand that their lives are too valuable to risk trying to take other people's "stuff".

1. Why isn't it a home invasion incident?

You mean because she wasn't in the home when the guy broke in? Just asking. Article says they "detailed" the intruder. Y'know, cleaned out his ashtrays, armor-alled his face....

2. Generally, a home invasion is where 2 or more armed people break-into...
a house where the resident is known to be at home. The show of force is designed to overcome the home-owner. Less proximate, the goblins who exercise home invasions are also motivated by the desire to hurt the "suckas" in the home, perhaps get at some dope, get "juice" in their circle of friends, and not be bothered by casing a likely candidate for invasion.

There are some home invaders (whom I term HyperPunks) who get off to the prospect of armed confrontation, but even among the more vicious thugs, they are in the minority.

This may help distinguish a home invasion from other types of break-ins.
