Attended a Gunshow for the first time on a long time...interesting...
I decided to go, looking for some embloc clips for my Garand and a era appropriate bayonet too. Maybe a utility knife also.

The anti-Obama vitriol was apparent, but not as bad as I remember with Clinton. Still made me bite my tongue and roll my eyes a bit. The Hilary stuff alone was nauseating at the last one I went to.

The selection was not nearly as good as I had hoped; a AR-fest and tacti-cool junk at inflated prices. Little if any memorabilia and camping gear. Prices were no better than online. Gun shows aren't what they used to be when I was a kid...outdoor fun for everyone mostly without politics. Now I feel like a spy undercover there. Gave me the creeps...

The only really nice part was the booth of the local Teabag Party. They were giving out candy and drinks and STILL the booth was empty! :D

Even the gun show folk didn't go for it!!!

1. Dallas
Got to go myself this past weekend to a show here in Dallas.

Walked away with a nice 1936 leather sling from Finland. Will go great with my Finn M28/30.

2. But the real question is can we once again afford to buy ammo?
Or are the tea klux Klanners still hoarding it all?

4. You can never tell when a 'Second Amendment Remedy' moment might come up.
I'm sure the tearacists are fully ammoed.

3. Depends on the show..
Even in the same venue, I've seen a lot of variation from one promoter to the next.

Sounds like you went to the show I was looking for and vice-versa. :)

5. The politicization of gun shows happened in the 1990's
When gun control was "vogue"... You cannot constantly attack someone and not expect them to get a "might surly"

Unfortunately as you noticed, most "political active" and "voting gun owners" remember full well it was predominately the Democrats that in the 1990's pushed all the crap. many gun owners have not forgave us for that mistake yet. It is hard to be forgiven, when their has been an air of "gun control smoke" around. With certain comments, by people of high rank in the administration, and things that are posted on a white house website.

Our party completely needs to get off this "Crack" that the Republicans got many in here addicted to back in the early 1990's The crack sold by Republican's Sara Brady, Paul Helmke, and Micheal Bloomberg.

Thankfully that "Crack" has already "taken out" most of their "smokers" but their are still enough around to stir the pot, and keep people riled up.

What are you needing for your M1? I might be able to help!

6. Very true. Nothing hurt our party like the gun control meme.
Unless maybe the NRA's response to it.

7. That response would have happened with or without the NRA...
as Jim Zumbo found out a year or two ago, methinks.

8. Zumbo was the prototypical Fudd
Edited on Mon Aug-23-10 01:41 PM by Pullo
The guy has come around, but his career took a huge hit from his epic gaff. I think the most shocking thing was the existence of such a high-profile Fudd hanging around in the mid 2000's. I think everyone believed those had been hunted to extinction by then. AR's had been THE gun to have for while.

I remember growing up as a kid attending gun shows, and they were different back then. However, once Clinton pushed ahead with his ill-conceived gun control agenda, they became a different animal. The fine antiques, collectibles, and traditional hunting rifles no longer dominated the shows. Most tables were now full of "military-style" weaponry and the politics became in your face.

10. The "vitriol" was rarely seen in earlier times. So why the change?...
I have said many times here that gun-controllers/prohibitionists made the modern NRA, and I will also stipulate that many firearms shows reflect the culture war started (and lost) by the gun-control lobby within the Democratic Party and MSM.
