Possability of another AWB?
With the coming mid term elections, and the ever present possability of a change of leadership it intales I have a question.

If the Democrates lose the leadership of the House and/or Senate would there be a new AWB passed between the elections and the official change?

Wild Ideas.

Any Thoughts?

3. Nope.
THe only place that idea will have any traction would be on talk shows that don't have anything to talk about...and they can usually find something.

Not a chance it will happen.

5. Even if it passed the house
Obama would never sign it unless he wanted to be a one term President. And IMO it wouldn't pass constitutional muster post Heller

6. I agree with the above members, which invites the

question "Why is the AWB still part of the party platform if all it does is bite us in the crotch?"

7. Why is the AWB still part of the party platform if all it does is bite us in the crotch?"
Answer: Because enough progressives haven't made it clear to their elected representatives that they don't support an AWB and they're will to vote to prove it

8. Because the very same Democratic leaders who oppose legalization of marijuana won't let it go
It's pretty ironic, actually.

13. Yeah, I've passed the joint with high officials who still oppose legalization.
Too many of our fellow Democrats want the "gun issue" to go away, or believe "it's no longer a big issue," but they are unwilling to face down the calcified controllers who still support gun-control with their graffiti-tagged Platform.

Misplaced morality in a world they don't understand.

16. "Misplaced morality in a world they don't understand."

Precisely!

I'm afraid that too many Democrats -- while recognizing that gun "control" is a political loser-- nevertheless consider "control" to represent the moral high ground, oblivious to the facts relating to high numbers of defensive gun use which destroy this argument.

Not that the gun-control lobby doesn't want one very, very badly (it's still probably their #2 or #3 legislative priority, looking at their press releases), and there are still a few very outspoken Dems who would be glad to sacrifice everything else for another ban. But the simple facts that rifles are the least misused of all guns, combined with the immense backlash that outlawing the most popular rifles would create, make it a no-go.

And as long as Senator Reid is Majority Leader, I don't think another ban would have a realistic chance of passing the Senate anyway. Mr. Reid has been a consistent opponent of the AWB fraud since he first entered Congress.

An AWB is past prime, new blip on the radar will be "micro-stamping".

Microstamping is the hogwash du jour for the controllers nowadays.

12. It would get filibustered in the Senate
There are enough Blue Dogs, that's for sure. If they'll filibuster health-care reform and banking reform, they sure as hell had better filibuster a new AWB.

14. Nah, not for a number of reasons..
First and foremost, they just don't have the votes. Second, if they tried some lame, middle-of-the-night thing like they did with the Volkmer-McClure act, they'd be crucified by morning. Our news cycle is waay to short these days for such to fly.

Finally, I can imagine many more lame-duck, 'screw you' options that would appeal more, and some would have a greater likelihood of passage.

I'm sure the repubs know this. Think they'll try this strategy to kick him out?

At least AG Holder got his hand slapped for mentioning it last February.
