Armed thug tried to rob salon, but brave off-duty cop getting hair done opened fire on crook
A heroic off-duty cop getting her hair done at a Brooklyn beauty salon got into a shootout Saturday night with an armed thug who burst into the shop, striking him at least once, police said.

Officer Feris Jones, who works in an NYPD crime lab in Jamaica, Queens, was a customer at Sabine's Hallway on Franklin Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 6:30 p.m. when the thug rushed into the business and demanded cash, police said.

Jones, 50, showing nerves of steel, immediately confronted the bandit, identified herself as a cop and ordered the man to drop his weapon.

Instead, the callous crook began blasting away, firing at least three times, but missing Jones, sources said.

Undaunted, Jones bravely returned fire, shooting twice and hitting the punk at least once, sources said. The injured man fled.

29. Some would call the thug a goblin; I prefer HyperPunk...
committing a robbery as a means to provoke a shoot-out for his/her own pleasure.

Would have denied this off-duty cop the right to wear a concealed weapon and defend herself if necessary.

Good for him.

3. Good for her
and many people, not necessarily on this forum, have the bigoted opinion that only one sex is capable of handling a gun.

Two birds down with only one stone.

4. I'm all for women learning how to use and owning a gun.
My daughter carries a .380 and is very good with it. She even outshoots her husband with his Desert Eagle .44 mag.

23. Possibly the most heinous act committed by the "control"
Edited on Sun Oct-24-10 02:38 PM by jazzhound
lobby is to dishonestly attempt to convince women that they are incapable of mastering firearm use and safety --- that it would be better for them "not to offer up resistance". :puke:

This tactic more than any other identifies them as faux-progressives, and absolutely devoid of compassion. Pro-choice w/regard to abortion, an extended middle finger w/regard to self-defense.

6. Name one person on DU that would deny an off-duty cop his gun.
Please dig up that person.

That's what I thought.

11. If I remember the quote correctly
one of our regular posters said something like " the officers service revolver should be kept under lock and key at the station when he or she is off duty".

17. "This Room"
is an excellent way to bring people like myself over from the dark side into the light. This issue has been an albatross around the neck of the Democratic party for decades. Upon learning that many in the party have no problem with qualified individuals owning and carrying a gun for self defense, I began to look into the other issues.

when I wrote a book report on a Mickey Spillane novel and stated that his skill at writing showed how we had advanced over the centuries.

Those were fun days.

26. Boy this crap is so one-sided. Stupid right-wing media...
Let me fix it for you...

An off-duty cop getting her hair done at a Brooklyn beauty salon got into a shootout Saturday night with a misunderstood youth who walked into the shop, violently striking him at least once, police said.

Officer Feris Jones, who works in an NYPD crime lab in Jamaica, Queens, was a customer at Sabine's Hallway on Franklin Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 6:30 p.m. when the youth walked into the business and asked for cash, police said.

Jones, 50, showing bloodlust, immediately confronted the struggling youth, identified herself as a bad-ass and ordered the man to get ready for a shit-storm.

Instead, the scared young man began crying, maybe firing at least three times, but missing Jones, sources said.

With grim determination, Jones violently returned fire, shooting twice and brutally hitting the poor young man at least once, sources said. The fightened and injured man fled.

Cops later followed a grusome trail of blood from the salon to the nearby Lafayette Gardens housing project. A search of the building came up empty and there were no arrests last night.

No one in the salon was injured except or the scared boy of course.

Jones "was eerily calm and just wanted to make sure no one was hit by the perp, by blastin the shit out of him" a source said.

Police were trying to determine whether a woman who asked about prices just before the robbery and then held the door open for the robber was an accomplice.

The door is usually locked and customers have to be let in.

Neighbors in Jones' Flatlands apartment building said her badassedness is well known.

Years ago, she held down and arrested a crazed man with her pinky trying to set fire to the building.

"She's always been a zero tolerance mo-fo ," said one neighbor, who declined to give his name out of sheer terror. "I feel good living across from her. REALLY... I FEEL GOOD LIVING ACROSS FROM HER!!!"

Neighbors of the salon said crime has been on an upswing in the area.

"I begged the cops to have more of a presence here," said Joseph Adewumi, 36, who owns a lounge across the street. "Too many businesses have been robbed and people are fed up."

Jones was treated and released from Kings County Hospital. "Her hair looked fine to me," a police source said of Jones' coif, post-shootout.

32. In all honesty...
I tried to actually see if that were true with the Daily News in particular.

I looked up the same authors and actually they don't change the language when it is a legal citizen shooting. They don't go over the top like they did with this story. I even looked into different authors and could find nothing painting the legal owners of firearms in anything but a good light.

So I dug further. They have also what is called the "Voice of the People" where they publish(on their website) a considerable amount of anti gun-control letters to the editors.

Reading even further they do have a thick line between the criminals with guns and citizens with gun.

They are a bit sensational(which keeps me away), but I must admit there is no gray area in how they feel about criminals with guns and honest citizens with guns.

I take back my above post.
