Erik Scott family files federal civil rights suit in Costco shooting
The Las Vegas police department was sued in federal court Thursday by the family of Erik Scott, which claims his civil rights were violated when officers shot and killed him at a Costco on July 10.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for Nevada, names as defendants the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Sheriff Doug Gillespie, officers William Mosher, Joshua Stark and Thomas Mendiola as well as Costco Wholesale Corp. and Costco security officer Shai Lierly.

Erik Scott family buys 4 billboard ads seeking Costco video

Four billboard ads unveiled today around the Las Vegas Valley seek surveillance video — for a $25,000 reward — from the Costco in Summerlin the day Erik Scott was shot by Metro Police.

Family spokeswoman Lisa Mayo-DeRiso said the Scott family is offering the award to anyone who has a "valid, unaltered copy of the 'missing' Costco surveillance data." The footage between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. must include images of Scott's behavior inside the store as well as the shooting in the Costco foyer area involving three Metro Police officers.

During the coroner's inquest, which deemed the shooting of 38-year-old Scott justifiable, the Scott family disputed authorities' claim that video of the incident does not exist.

Costco store employees testified during the inquest in September that the video recorder was not properly working at the time of the shooting.

so they can make up stuff out of thin air about what happened in and outside the store (because making public an unedited video of an incident allows you to make shit up about the incident much more easily). And we know the NRA is involved, even though the news story said nothing about the NRA, because the NRA is just evil that way and wants to impugn the character of the Costco manager and/or the officers by showing video footage that would verify their testimony. Or something.

Seriously, the testimony we have is conflicting, and the video would sort it out, one way or the other. If you are correct about the manager's account and the officers' testimony, then the video would confirm it, would it not?

Maybe it was indeed just a "glitch" that caused the missing video, but it is certainly quite convenient for Costco (and the police) that it's missing---as in multimillion-dollar convenient---if indeed the manager did give an exaggerated description to dispatch in order to expedite the response, and if the police shot him for complying with another officer's orders.
