Poll question: I just watched Rachel and she made me seriously reflect...
I found it a powerful show. I was one of the people who had long ago given up on the thought that ANY thing could be done about real gun violence. This, I said, "is just the price Americans had decided they are willing to pay."

But she talked specifics...tactically, strategically. For example, a vote in Congress that might reduce the number of bullets carried in a magazine clip from 30 to 15? That seemed, I thought, perhaps a possibility--something reasonable now, even for a moderate politician.

But of course, that might require a real leader with courage to put something on the line. So here is my question:

PS: I don't have an opinion on this one. I find it a tough one.

1. The problem is getting anything to pass the Congress. President Obama is not the problem.
He could push it and bully pulpit it 24/7 and it wouldn't get it passed through Congress.

3. If anything like Rachel talked about happens...
it will be a massacre in 2012. A massacre.

So what's it worth? Is it worth the senate and the whitehouse too?

My TIVO ran up against a conflict during her show & stopped but I have the repeat
set to record...what little I did see sure wasn't something I'd support. She is WAY out of touch with Democrats in general on this issue.

4. Sorry, I don't do push polls.
If our current crop of congresscritters want to hand it all over to the RWers, they can make it happen by trying to shove through a feel-good but worthless bunch of bullshit 'GUN CONTROL' legislation and say goodbye to any delusions of power for a generation.

7. I am sorry it felt like a push poll to you...
In any case after over 2000 posts this kind of "pushing" of the "push pollers" is, for me, over.

I will not be back at DU, with great regret.

9. Huh?????? You said in the OP you didn't have an opinion on it!
That pretty much guarantees you won't find anyone to agree with...........:eyes:

5. This was not about guns, it was about Obama.
Was my posting of the poll so awkward?

Or has the thinking at DU become so narrow they can no longer see that all is connected?

Goodbye DU.

After a 1999 and god knows how many posts I will not be back...
I hope I can find a site that understands that things are just a bit more complex than simple categories.

10. I don't give a crapppabout the industry.
I give a crap about the ten bullets that found their way out of the psycho's guns that wouldn't have been there to fire if they hadn't been in the magazine.

In any case, this discussion is senseless...I refuse to participate on this format.

And quite franckly I wish they didn't have the ability at DU to shovel inconvenient people into a forum that is rarely read by DU folks.

FUCK DU (FOREVER)

15. I understand your frustration with those who don't understand how 95+% of us walk out door w/o a gun

each and every day. And return home safely.

The rationalizations they post for their obsession with carrying a gun stuffed down their pants or strapped to their leg totally ignore what is best for our society and our future.

and getting the states to input all records (especially the names of those flagged with serious mental health issues) quicker.

12. If Rachel had used any actual facts to make her argument, it might be more persuasive..
But..

1. Plastic guns are imaginary. Always were. I'm assuming she's just misinformed.
2. 'Cop Killer' bullets were not 'designed to penetrate body armor'. Teflon does not make a bullet capable of doing so.
3. 30 round magazines were never illegal to sell or possess during the '94 ban. (Selling new stocks was, but the market was flooded with 'pre-ban' mags.)

13. I voted NO....
because Rachels' entire show was 'built' on a foundation of lies.

President Obama is smarter than that.
