Ill. court allows nonresidents to transport guns

The Illinois Supreme Court says people permitted to carry guns in other states may transport them here without an Illinois license.

The court ruled unanimously Thursday in the case of an Indiana resident who was arrested in May 2005 with a gun in a closed backseat armrest of his car.

Leonard Holmes was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of weapon because he lacked a Firearm Owners Identification card and didn't have the gun in a case.

Holmes had a permit to carry a concealed firearm in Indiana, and the court held that Illinois law does not require a FOID card too. It also ruled the armrest served as a case.

4. Is it safe for my retired parents to travel across the Country in their motor-home

with an unloaded pistol in a case? They are TX residents and they do not have a concealed carry permit. Are there any other states that might charge them with something like that?

They charged the poor guy with an aggravated felony! I have lived in IL and there are a lot real crimes that they should be dealing with.

Since it is a motor home, they live there!

Does not the Fourth Amendment protect them from unreasonable searches and seizures? If, during a routine traffic stop, a cop wanted to ensure that the area immediately accessible by the driver was free of weapons for his own protection might be one thing. Anything beyond that would require probable cause and a warrant.

Unless your parents give consent to a search, he can't go rooting through the cabinets or back bedroom wondering what evidence he might find?

That's when they play musical chairs at city hall. Maybe equally significant is that 1/3 of the alderman (17 out of 50) will also be new to the City Council and obviously not experienced rubber stamps yet.

It could get ugly because Rahm seems to already be picking a fight with two or three big unions that backed him in the election. It could be just for show and the media, but if he's at all serious about some of the demands he's hinting at, he's going to lose a lot of support.

13. I was stopped on my way through Illinois once.

Had my pistol disassembled in my console, mag and ammo in a lockbox in my covered truckbed. I had no idea I was even traveling in Illinois until the stop. By the grace of God I must have gotten a "cool" officer. I informed him and he took the receiver to check the serial number against police reports(this upset me, but I had other worries at the time), then brought it back. I took it as a warning, and promptly changed my route to avoid Illinois at all costs.
