Police: Reno homeowner shot, killed man who was attempting to rob him

Reno police said a 32-year-old homeowner Wednesday night shot and killed a 19-year-old man who drove up to his home and confronted him with a gun while demanding his property.

Investigators said the homeowner had just driven up to his home when he noticed a dark-colored pickup drive past him several times. It finally parked, and its headlights were shut off. Rafaqat said the homeowner felt the truck was suspicious and went inside his home to get a paper and pen to write down the license plate. The homeowner also tucked his 9mm gun inside his sweatshirt pocket.

Officers said that when he approached the truck, a man got out, displayed a firearm and demanded the homeowner’s property. The homeowner said the man began to “work the slide” of his weapon, which prompted him to fear for his life and fire several shots at the suspect, police said.

Police found a clip to an Airsoft pellet rifle on the ground near where the truck had been parked, but Rafaqat said it had not yet been determined what kind of weapon the suspect used.
