Are Arizona's gun laws too lax?
Or is that the pool laws? From http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/region_phoenix_metro/south_phoenix/drowning-warning-for-valley-parents">abc15.com:

PHOENIX - Two children died Saturday in separate swimming pool accidents, just hours apart.

For all of 2010, Maricopa County had a total of 48 water related deaths, 20 of them were children.

So far this year, the county has had five. That number is expected to jump as the summer approaches.

Seems like if all of this concern about guns in public is "for the children," some of these people would be taking a bit more interest in the REAL child-killer in the valley: pools.

After all; who needs a pool?

1. More pool deaths than gun deaths
I can't find a 2010 statistic to see if more than 20 children were killed by guns in Maricopa County, but I found a 2009 stat; drowning beat guns again as a killer of children.

PDF at the link: http://www.wellwomanhealthcheck.com/phs/owch/pdf/reports/2009cfr/2009%20Maricopa%20County.pdf

Where are all of the protests against pools?

2. How about how many adults die in pools
compared to guns? Then come back with a total.

Just saying.......

15. no doubt about that - they should be scrutinized for child-safety
any violations should be dealt with harshly.

3. 18 -15 is close, isn't it? How about the other 14 counties?

Do you have statistics for them also?

Please post them if you do. After all, that's only fair since the subject line addresses the state as a whole.

how many 15 to 18 year old children die in pools compared to gun shots?

I'll bet some tea baggers spent hours digging up those stats. That county is full of em.

7. There is an easy test for gun laws.
These laws have been in place for a while....
there has been NO spike in gun deaths. Zip. Nada. None.

So the answer is, NO. They are not too lax.

9. Taking your 'logic' one step further - lakes, oceans and water in general should be regulated.
After all, there are the intellectually lazy and inept who will not follow simple rules for safe use. And there are criminally and mentally ill people who will abuse it to commit crimes against society.

You know, if the existing laws for safe and acceptable water use were enforced these types of tragedies would not happen.

I am series about water regulation.

16. To answer your question, No.
Laws are for after the fact anyway. Laws are just words on a piece a paper, open to interpretation, constantly changing and evolving. We can attempt to legislate safety and we owe it to ourselves to try and stay safe and keep our loved ones safe but, we can not CONTROL every moment in time, can we?
