Pastor Terry Jones ND - Taurus 40 cal - do they have models w/o manual safety?
Edited on Fri Apr-22-11 11:54 AM by RamboLiberal
You know I like to get the facts straight. Want to know to see if doofus also didn't engage the manual safety.

At 11:10 p.m. Wednesday, pastor Terry Jones of Gainesville, Fla., had just completed an interview at WJBK-TV (Channel 2) studio in Southfield, and as he was entering the passenger side of a vehicle, he retrieved his handgun from the door of the vehicle and discharged it into the floorboard.

In a press release today, police stressed no one was injured as a result. A Southfield officer, on scene at the request of WJBK, heard the shot. An investigation was initiated, and it was established that Jones has a valid Florida concealed weapon license and was lawfully carrying the weapon, a Taurus .40 caliber handgun.

A second handgun was located under the driver's seat of the vehicle. It was established that the handgun belonged to the driver of the vehicle, pastor Wayne Sapp, 42, of Gainesville, Fla., an associate of Jones. He also had a valid Florida concealed weapons license.

1. Sounds like the moron just missed shooting himself in the foot.
There are no idiot-proof firearms. Not a single one.

6. It didn't go off in his pants
He was picking it up from door pocket. They left guns in car cause local Fox studio has no weapons policy.

Oh the Horror - does Faux hate the 2nd amendment?

9. Depends on the model.
Most of them have an external safety, a few do not.

http://www.taurususa.com/

Taurus makes a lot of different guns. A brief browse seems to show that all their .40 cal models have external safeties, but I wouldn't swear to it in court without a closer look.

10. He obviously has neither a concealed-carry nor open-carry brain license.
Or if he does, he doesn't have the hardware to go with it. ;-)

Is he afraid his god won't protect him?

12. My guess would be...
That he left it in the door with a round chambered and not even a holster to cover the trigger and proceeded to pick it up with his finger on the trigger like a jackass.

13. Why would the police "stress" that no one was injured? I'd rather they stress that this idiot
displayed a massive lack of intelligence, common sense, and responsibility (to go along with his other failings).

I'm disappointed that the police aren't filing charges, if there's any possibility of doing so. I know that if some asshole came to my state/city specifically to create a ruckus, and committed a crime - accidentally or not - I'd sure want him charged...

(I'm curious about the other gun as well - was it in a proper holster, or just sliding around under the seat?)

Edited on Fri Apr-22-11 08:14 PM by RamboLiberal
"I always, always have the safety on, and I guess if I can find an excuse, I'd been up since 4:30 a.m. and I forgot to put (the safety) back on," he said.

20. So when did he disengage the safety?
If he "always, always" has the safety on, how did it come to be disengaged prior to his attempting to retrieve the weapon?

21. He's a total dumbass
You don't touch the trigger unless you're decocking a gun (some models), disassembling it for cleaning (some models) or shooting it (all models).

He's a moron.

22. I've carried firearms without a safety ...
one is my current carry weapon, a Model 642 S&W revolver. Only rare and unusual revolvers have a safety.

I also carried a Beretta Centurion 96D a 40 caliber pistol that is double action only and does not have a safety.

The secret is to keep your finger off the trigger unless you wish to hear a loud noise.

25. Most revolvers don't have a safety
Being double action, they are very unlikely to fire accidentally, but I used to carry a Taurus 85 with the bullets separately, in a speed loader.

24. I have a Taurus...
If it was a CCW model and a 40 S&W caliber, it was likely to be a P type.

Their safety wears off with time and is likely to come undone when it rubs on something.

I've undone the safety a couple times myself when removing the pistol out of my pocket.

I never chamber a round, by the way, I carry condition 3 (chamber empty, safety on).

Figured it is still good protection. And I don't CCW all the time, only at night (I have been threatened).

I like Taurus, especially their revolvers.

26. All Taurus Pistols
Are equipped with a safety. Safeties are useless on a revolver. Just a bunch of lawyer crap.
