Bumper Sticker
Edited on Wed May-11-11 09:10 PM by Renew Deal
I saw a bumper sticker a couple days ago that was odd. It said "I'd rather be hunting with my son than for my son. NRA"

What does that mean? That hunting is a bonding experience? Is this some sort of NRA inside joke?

3. That's what I thought.
I don't see to many NRA stickers where I live. I saw this in the Philly suburbs.

5. Fathers and sons
have been hunting together for a million years. It's an activity that is probably more fundamental to human relationships than any of us realize.

6. There have been laws suggested from time to time....
...in different states that would limit the age at which a person could start hunting (I believe Wisconsin was debating this not long ago), even with a parent/guardian. My guess is that this bumper sticker is aimed at that, though I could be mistaken.

10. From a different time
and a culture you know nothing about, most likely. Growing up on a farm 60 years ago I knew where my food came from and how it got there.

When I was a kid you could hunt at age 11. But back in the Fifties either we were more responsible as kids or our parents had higher expectations. After our chores were done, we often went hunting, by ourselves! In the summer we would thin out the groundhogs in the pastures. In the fall, Mom welcomed a big cottontail or a nice fat ruffed grouse for the supper table. Venison was an important part of winter fare.

When I grew up, if your parents couldn't trust you with a pocket knife by age 8, a .22 rifle by age 10, and your own shotgun by age 12, you were pretty much a failure in the eyes of adults as well as your peers. You knew how to drive the tractor pulling the hay wagon by 10. The freed up an older, stronger, family member to pitch bales onto the wagon. It took everyone in the family working to make it.

13. know how to make a guy homesick don't you
Ever have beef right off the range? Tastes just like venison. A good sized deer plus a pronghorn. If you won the Elk lottery on top if it, didn't have touch any of that chemical laden stuff from the store for a year. Good, lean and organic on an open fire.....Florida sucks, going home.

16. You keep trying way too hard to seem witty and smart and failing dismally
It's perfectly OK not to feel you have to make a snarky comment on every thread.

Only a total jerk would try and twist a comment about a father and son doing something together into a poorly worded gun control rant.

Please find another dead horse to beat somewhere else and stop embarrassing yourself like this.
