There are often-repeated claims here and elsewhere that "assault weapons" are not legitimate...
hunting tools, although the people making that claim usually can't define what an "assault weapon" is, nor why one isn't appropriate for hunting.

Here's a chance to discuss the subject a bit; which of the following is not a legitimate hunting weapon, and why or why not?

1. The manufacturers
of bullshit ideology make the real killing parsing the various faux dangers of cosmetic and ergonomic features of firearms for the more credulous and bigoted of arrogant political partisans in the Democratic party. That's where the real money is.

The bullets go on the bottom and out the front. As far as the average person is concerned they're all the same.

2. Obvious answers: at the 1st, 5th, and 6th links there are all-black models. Obviously, these
highly dangerous and should be prohibited. Links 2 and 4 contain the word "tactical" - which we all know means 'murder-weapon'. Link 7 looks scary, but it's colored in a friendly grass-like design, so I'm gonna cut that one some slack and say it's OK.

What do I win?

And number 3 has a thumbhole stock. According to Josh Sugarmann, thumbhole stocks exist only to circumvent bans on pistol grips, so obviously this model should be banned as well.

5. I already have 1 ar set up for hunting, I'm getting ready to buy a 6.8
for hunting here in Va...

I've seen people hunting with 308 saigas and 7.69SKS's

I don't see any reason an AK couldn't be used either....

I do like the idea of the 30AR cartridge also.

9. The odds are greater that his death would be by stomping rather than
by rifle (of any sort). But at least if stomping was attempted, he'd have the upper hand.

23. Thank you for illustrating the point
Namely that labeling a particular design of rifle an "assault weapon" on the basis of certain mechanical and cosmetic features is utterly ludicrous.

30. All of them and none of them...
Any of them could be used for assault if the user is so motivated.

That said, if I can trust you not to shoot me with a bolt action rifle, I also trust you with a magazine-fed semi-auto. If I cannot trust you with the latter, I don't trust you with the former either.

I think I'll book mark this thread and throw it in the face of the next person who makes that, or similar, silly claim.
