South Fayette gun shop worker shot by robber (near Pittsburgh)
A robber entered a South Fayette gun shop just after it opened this morning and shot an employee before fleeing.

John Lukachak, 64, is in Allegheny General Hospital after he was shot in the left hand and upper shoulder, with the bullet lodging in a large muscle in his back. Despite the wounds, Mr. Lukachak is in good condition and in "high spirits," South Fayette Police Chief Louis Volle said this afternoon.

Mr. Lukachak was shot at 10:05 a.m. inside Federal Firearms on Thoms Run Road.

-----

The robber was described as a white male in his 50s, 5-feet-6 to 5-feet-7, 150 to 160 pounds, with gray hair and goatee. He was wearing a soft, green, Army-style field cap.

Majority of gun shop workers I see openly carry in shop except at a big store like Cabelas.

1. Now, if only he had had a gun available nearby, the assailant wouldn't have been able ...
oh, never mind.

2. Helps if they are loaded.
Do you ever have a logical point to make?

5. Yeah, doesn't really matter that most if not all are under lock and key
and none of them are loaded.

10. Yes, because gun shops...
...typically have their firearms loaded and easily accessible at all times.

Seriously, is this your idea of trying to be clever?

3. That's a rather unusual description for the robber
Other than the part about him being male. Old guys don't often turn to robbery, unless they have drug problems.

4. "Majority of gun shop workers I see openly carry"
Exact same thing I was going to say.

Very unusual to see a gun shop get robbed.

13. Most gun shops don't only have one employee present
Not in my experience, anyway. I can think of only one instance where I've walked into a gun shop and there only one guy manning the place, and that's because his buddy was getting coffees across the street.

6. All those guns, and the employee couldn't do a thing once the robber had the drop on him.

Probably the case in the vast majority of robberies. But, the cowboy toters think they can draw so quickly -- they've done it a thousand times in front of the mirror or shooting paper targets.

11. Still keeping up with this BS huh?
Doesn't matter that it has been pointed out up-thread about guns being unloaded and locked up does it? The only cowboy toters I have ever seen were at a wild west show in Arizona and in your mind. Do they practice drawing in front of a mirror and shooting paper targets like you say they do? I don't know, you seem to be the expert.

12. I must have missed the bit where the robber cleaned out the store at his leisure
...while "the employee couldn't do a thing." Did that come before or after the robber fled with one item so insignificant the owner has to conduct an inventory to find out what it was? If Federal Firearms is anything like most gun shops I've been in, the stuff between the counter and the door is mostly cleaning supplies and ball caps bearing manufacturers' logos.

You need some new lines, pal. Your old ones went stale months ago.
