Emmaus residents take aim at home gun sales
http://www.mcall.com/news/local/eastpenn/mc-emmaus-residents-defeat-gun-sellin20110624,0,359759.story

A group of Emmaus residents walked into a Zoning Hearing Board meeting Thursday and took aim at their neighbor's request to sell firearms online from his home on Little Lehigh Drive.

They hit their tagret. By the night's end, David Gardner withdrew his request for a general home Occupation special exception after nine neighbors provided testimony against his endeavor and more than 20 disgrunteld neighbors attended the meeting.

"It's just not worth the fight," he said to a jubilant audience. "So screw the 300 bucks and thank you for your time."

Gardner, 62, hoped to sell Curio and Relic and antique firearms on online auction sites, shipping them via UPS or the U.S. Postal Service.

1. This juxtaposes quite nicely with all those threads about expanded CCW
and parking lots and so on. I guess this is the backlash, huh?

4. No shit.
How can a gang-banger be stylish trying to hold and aim an M1 Garand sideways?

Can't be done.

40. I just like Garands...
...Just because I like these sites:

memorableplaces.com

a-human-right.com

And when you're firing that Garand, if you're right-handed don't wrap your left hand too far around the rifle.
If you're a lefty, watch where you put your right thumb. ;)

26. I was thinking more of a Mosin Nagant armed gang
Maybe all 91-30's with bayonets fixed, trying to fit 6 or 8 of them in a car for a drive by?

They'd have more of their own in the ER with multiple scratches and stab wounds before they got anywhere near another gang.

Or trying to rob the local C-Store with a Mauser or '03 Springfield? Kind of hard to fit that under your coat.

Silly neighbors.

6. USPS ships guns, but there are restrictions
http://www.cgwgun.com/shipping/usps.aspx

Even a non-dealer can ship a handgun off to the manufacturer to be repaired.

The first Glock 17 I bought back in 1988 developed a bad disconnecter and I had to send to Glock for repair. I used USPS Overnight delivery. They returned it via UPS.

do the whole 4473 NICS thing to get it back?

11. FFL and 4473 is only needed for transfer of ownership.
Once it belongs to you, it can be shipped back to you with no paperwork. It's yours, after all.

This is typically what happens when a firearm is sent in for service. Even now.

21. They always have...
http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/ship/packaging/guidelines/firearms.html

I've shipped several firearms that way - to a custom gunsmith to work on; and older used firearm to be refinished; to the manufacturer for service; completion of an online private sale - shipping to their FFL who would transfer the firearm to the buyer and have them complete the Form 4473. Never had an issue...

12. Actually, he DID care.
He withdrew his request. Remember?

BTW, he can still have the firearms, as many as he wants. He can even buy and sell, ship and receive. He just can't do it as a business.

13. Come on. He threw in the towel. He withdrew his request when he knew it was hopeless?

He should have just done that rather than letting his neighbors know he's obsessed with guns.

14. Hopeless? After ONE public hearing?
Bullshit. A couple in my hometown have been in court with the zoning board for years over a business they want to open.

"Obsessed with guns" -- c'mon now. A curio and relic dealer. Puh-leeze.

37. Like most gunners, Gardner thought neighbors wouldn't care. He got a surprise and had to withdraw to

avoid more publicity and more neighbors saying "Take your friggin guns to some other neighborhood." We need more of that.

38. I think you missed my point before.
He can still own all the guns he wants, and even buy and sell them. He just can't do it as a business. AFAIK, there is no zoning restriction on private C&R (Curio and Relic) collections.

"Like most gunners"? Keep pulling those factoids out of your nether regions; it does wonders for your credibility.

means he obsessed? Would a person wanting to sell any type of antique from their home be obsessed in your opinion?

25. Hypocrisy at its finest!
Property rights are the core of our Republic ... if it's a corporation trying to ban guns in employee cars.

A private citizen running a gun related business out of their own basement, well that's pure evil and deserves to be stopped.

Don't ever look for consistency or any form of logic dealing with gun control people. The end always justifies the means, as long as the end is more control.

They have lost the discussion and don't have the votes to do anything now and are now at the flailing around stage. Last week their big "victory" was an alderman somewhere proposing a new gun law, not passing it, but just proposing it. At the same time Wisconsin passed CCW, Maine, Ohio and several other states continued to loosen their restrictions on law abiding owners.

I'd much rather it was them whining then us.

34. "This is the operative statement. The others are inoperative."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Ziegler#Notable_quotes

"This is the operative statement. The others are inoperative." –April 17, 1973, retracting previous statements that had been revealed to be false.

I've noticed a lot of that with these types- A Rupert Murdoch-owned source is not to be trusted (until one says what they

want to hear, of course), another poster in this thread contradicting himself in less than three hours, and of course that

idiot McCarthy in Chicago is already backtracking about his previous statements.

Gun control advocates seem to have a great deal of cognitive dissonance....
